I find insurers charge more to loyal customers so I change every year.

asked last year why my insurance had risen by £50 was told "because we have had a lot of claims this year" so what's that got to do with me,make their insurance dearer NOT MINE!!
i have very little sympathy. as most car journeys are unnecessary.
More to the point the cost of claims has gone up what with "Injuries R us" or whoever bunginging kickbacks to get the names of accident victims and then phoning them up and persuading them to persue bogus whiplash claims.

You may never have had a claim but you still have some small risk of doing so and if the cost of that claim is higher they will charge you higher premiums.

But I would certainly echo the wisdom of shopping around and thinking about restricted milage policies or raising your excess
When my ins and tax and MOT runs out this year, I am seriously considering not having a car anymore. What with the price of petrol as well, it is nigh on impossible to run a car these days. It will be hard to begin with, but like everything else, you get used to what you've got/or not got!!
£70 increase is nothing -mine went up £200- and was still the feckin cheapest!!
Had to break my balls and got a quote at 11th hour- still over £100 more than previous
"Ain't cheap to run a car anymore". Has it ever been cheap to run a car at all. Not in my lifetime it has not. Which is the cheapest insurance company for cars in this country? Does anyone here know?
bernie, good luck searching for a better quote.. they've all gone up :o(
In a rural setting there are no alternatives to owning a car. I could get to town in the afternoon on the bus but I'd have to wait until tomorrow to come home again.

My high performance Vectra only costs around £600 to insure for a year but that preferential rate comes with drawbacks.......wrinkles and an ever-increasing bald patch!
My road tax is only £30 a year and my insurance is about £250 fully comp....
Mine was £247 last year, £516 this year.
but I'd say that is on something dreadful and dull Karenmac like a Saxo or a three cylinder Corsa, only marginally better than walking.
It's a hyundai, and it's for practical reasons. I don't have anything to prove ;)
Horses for courses Karenmac. Personally I like driving like my hair is on fire (if I had any hair left, that is) :-(
MY insurer increased my premium 2 years ago by about £90 so I changed insurer, went back to them last year because they gave me a cheaper quote, was expecting them to hike up the renewal price again this year, and was looking around for prices, but lo and behold they had reduced the price!....only by £17, but it was a reduction!.....first time in years!......
Mine went up to £266 from £204................managed to get it back down again by increasing my excess.
Car insurance prices have been rising sharply for the last three years as the industry rushes to recoup a surge in personal injury claims, fuelled by the growing influence of "no win, no fee" lawyers. Last year, insurers lost 20 pence for every pound of premium income they earned, which at that rate would eventually put them out of business unless premiums are increased. Where would you go for insurance then?
Years ago I was with Quinn Direct. I had a claim resulting from a non fault accident and their service was faultless. Which was a shame at renewal when they were not competitive. So I gave them the target premium I was prepared to pay and they point blank refused to negotiate. So balls to them. I shifted my business elsewhere where I did get the service and cover.
Car Tax for me £0000.00 go green--

Spikey - I am still with Quinn direct (3rd year)
no claims made & no big increase in premium - i try comparison sites every year for all my Car/Bike insurance
