I'm curious now, SherrardK.

Does that mean that Mr Sherrard found himself acting as midwife, or was it truly a 'DIY' birth?

Oh, to answer the question:
Yes, I've accompanied a few kids (from the school where I was in charge of first aid) to A&E, with 'blues and twos'. They were all 'precautionary' (or, more likely, just because the ambulance crew got a 'buzz' out of dashing through the traffic) with no real risk of anything serious occurring. My main concern was usually that the head teacher was going to be furious that he'd got to cover for an absent member of staff!
