Peugeot 307, sealed unit thingymibob.
Can anyone tell me whether I can just purchase a bulb and get some nice man to fit it, or is it a full garage job?

If you go to Halfords and ask them they may fit it for you. They did mine!

It might be a fuse
It's really easy to change the bulb once you know how to find it. On mine you open the boot and behind each light secton in the corners there is a cover which you just take off which gives you access to the bulbs.
Halfords are a rip off, took my car in for a headlight bulb, asked them to fit it and they took the wrong bulb out it broke so they charged me for the 2 bulbs and £3.99 to fit one bulb then £5.99 for the second bulb i watched them do it and realised i could of bought the bulbs and done it myself and to make matters worse i spoke to my local garage who said they would of done the job for the price of the bulb!

If it's just a bulb replacement, I can do that. I have done that.

But if it's a sealed unit, isn't that a little different and more fiddly?
