EPC on Golf GTX and engine going off after a few minutes of EPC display

I just bout a 2002 Golf GTX, worked very well for two weeks, then the battery went low, had to buy a new one, this has been followed with an EPC display on the dash board followed in most cases with engine going off, then takes lots of cranking before it comes on.
I have a user manual in Japanese any clue on where i could get one in English?
