poor ideling

i have 52 plate 2.2 petrol omega.The timing belt went so i had a mate repair for me.Now the engine mangement light is on and when the heating or cooling is on and im sitting ideling it goes real rough.If i switch the car off and on the problem goes away until the car is stationary again Any help please
