I think the battery is dead on my 3-year old SportKa. Is 3 years a reasonable amount of time for a car battery to die? It seems a little premature. I use the car regularly. Any clues?

You may use it regularly, but if that is short journeys with heated rear window and lights on, the battery may not be able to keep up.

3 years is a bit short, so I suggest a night on a trickle charger occasionally may be needed.

mmm - most of my journeys are just to work, which is about 5 miles away, so I guess they are mainly quite short journeys. And at this time of year the heated rear window and lights are getting a good pasting!
Thanks for the tip.
not normal, but possible , 1st bit of cold weather and battery problems show up.. Fords use to give a 1year warranty on a new vehicle battery but 3 years on a replacement battery ?...not sure what it is now, could be worth a call to a dealer
why do you think they only give a 3 yr warrantee, because they dont last much longer.
Turn off the heated rear window assoon as possible, as it uses quite a bit of juice.

Don't economise on the lights though!

thanks for all your answers. I took it to the garage and they got me a new battery. Seems fine now. Sorted.
