I have a 1998 Astra 1.8 estate. I keep getting a loud squealing noise from one of the offside wheels. (I think it's the back wheel.) It only comes on when I've done a few miles, and stops when I brake or turn left! (Also stops if I apply the handbrake slightly while driving.) Garage can't find the problem as it never happens when I take it to a mechanic... Could it be a wheel bearing or something? The noise gets so loud, it's really embarrassing! Thanks.

Use WD40 on the Suspension Rubbers at the rear of the car.
Maybe you could only go to places that you only need to drive left for?
Again, You may find the stupid get someone to sit in the back of the car with the window open so they can listen to this noise & what area it is coming from, Have you changed the rear wheels?
Perhaps you have mice in the boot? Try contacting Rentokil.
ignore the newbies in green, unfortunately they know **** all about anything, as twr says it may be a perishing rubber suspension bush or maybe it could be your rear brakes that are binding once the heat gets to a certain level, worth having it checked though
A perishing bush? Sounds painful.

To those that posted sensible replies - thanks for your time, I appreciate it. To the tw@t who thinks he's really funny - what did you bother signing up to AB for, exactly??? You will make yourself very unpopular very quickly, my friend...
it is probably coming from the rear brakes as twr said get someone to sit in the rear of the car with the window open & listen for the noise (note some makes of pad have audible wear indicators on them which squeel) if it's coming from the rear brakes i would try new pads first & make sure you put copper grease on the back of them & on the points where they sit in the calliper, check to make sure the handbrake is not over adjusted aswell as this can cause the brakes to bind causing noises.
This is to another ARSOL! why do clowns like you come onto a site that asks for reply to a sensible Q, I came off a site because of Brown hatters like you, there are plenty of Sites on the net for little brainless pratts like you or better still if you live within walking distance of a motorway why dont you go and play on that tonight would be a good time you half wit.
