Timing belt on 1995 escort 1.6 16valve engine

The bearing in the timing belt tensioner collapsed and threw all the timing out. I need to fit new tensioner and re-time the engine to see if anymore damage done?
Can anyone advise as to best way to do this?

If the timing is "all out" there will be damage to the engine internals, You need to take the cylinder head off and repair the damage before Renewing the Auxilary belt, the cambelt, the tensioner and re-timing.
Hi, As stated, You have to remove the head, If you are not well up on Mechanics I would not advise you to start this job, But if you are, Empty the Radiator by removing the Bottom hose, Remove top hose Heater Hoses, Inlet Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, Remove the Rocker Cover, The Rocker shaft, ( When you start to remove these bolts from the rocker shaft get a piece of cardboard & mark them Eg/ Front No/1 Front /2 & so on, When you have removed the lot use a heavy Rubber mallet to losen the head ( Do not use a Metal Hammer As this will of course, Cause damage) As stated from the start, If you are unsure of this task, Do not start it. But if you succedd use new belts, tensioner, Check the Valves, I would also get the head skimmed, When all back in place, Use Summer/Winter Anti Freeze, Check the Timing & check again, & Again, Before start up check for leaks, Good Luck.
