ford focus speedo

i am having trouble with the speedo on my ford focus.
it keeps stopping working then starting up again anybody with any ideas.whats wrong with it and how to fix it.....cheers

Speedo's use to have a nylon gear down at the gearbox end of the speedo cable - it could wear and make the speedo inop.
Nowadays it is a simple sensor mounted oin the gearbox casing - not too hard to change.
