The advisory notice stated two things -

1.both front constant velocity gaiters deteriorated.

2. Offside front shock absorber has a light misting of oil.

Are either of these points particularly worrying, and is it expensive to have a shock absorber replaced.

Or would you, having got a new MOT, get rid of the car.

If you're keeping the car get the gaiters renewed - if they burst you will end up having to renew the constant velocity ( CV ) joints. 'Light misting of oil' means that the damper is beginning to leak and you can bet that the other side will soon follow suit. Generally best to renew dampers as a pair and fronts are a lot more hassle than rears as they are usually part of the struts. Better to get a quote for the work then make up your mind about getting rid of it.
If the cv gaiters are leaking grease it should fail its mot sounds like the garage is after your money .as a tester i would leave it
CV boots 'deteriorated' is a bit vague, preasumeably he means they are starting to show signs of cracking, but to fail they need to be actually split and permitting the grease out and dirt in.They could go on for years like this before actually splitting, at which point they would be a fail.

Shockers are easy and cheap to do if you have the gear, not that expensive if you don't as it's one of those things any fast fit centre can do, so shop around.Worn and leaking shocks will eventually badly affect the handling of the car so get them sorted.

Bear in mind if you do sell the car that a clued up buyer will check the MOT status on line, see the advisories, and use them as a bargaining point.
