try shorting out the plug to the switch with a piece of wire. if the lights then light up the switch will control the lights. if the lights arnt working but do when you short out the plug you will have a faulty switch.

it is not just a normal reverse light switch with 2 connections . there are 5 wires . have fitted many reverse lights and done wiring on cars . but not sure if multifunction switch opertates reverse lights
