Noticed a few times had difficulty getting locking petrol cap off but went to petrol station and it finally stuck just wouldn't budge. As I had half a tank I drove off and of course being a woman didn't want to looked stupid. My son got it off with great difficulty but had to force it .Going to get one today but would just like to know why this happened. It was just as if it wouldn't release the suction when I turned the key.I have just placed it back unlocked and I have an outer cover as well and car is in garage. Thanks for any replies.

thanks for reply but has always had outer cover so not been exposed to rain I expect it is as you said nothing lasts forever.
Give it a squirt of WD 40, it worked for me.
Question Author
thank you yes I did think of that but as I am on my own I would always have the worry it would happen again.
Also with being a woman you do not give us any idea about what car you have, never mind though, most men don't either but they don't think their stupid.

As the oldgit says WD 40 cures most things.

best of luck with it.
