Car is: S reg Peugeot 306 GLX Hatch back - Petrol Engine.
Problem is: Over revving when stationary and when moving, the car seems to want to accelerate without me touching the gas pedal. when starting the engine seems to vibrate, and there is a smell of burning. When it first happened the car was under warrenty, and we took it back to the dealer. The mechanic seemed to think it was an over tight throttle cable. Which he slackened off, but the problem has since returned and it seems worse than before. We generally only use the car at weekends, so its not as though the engine is thrashed, any advice would be welcome.

Thank you.

Get your idle control valve checked, it sounds similar to a problem i have just had on an escort....and i found out it was the idle control valve sticking...its a dealer part as well so dont expect it to be cheap if it is the cause of your problems, mine cost 70 good luck =)
