Does anyone speak Polish please?

Gratulacje z okazji slubu dla Julity & Mateusza, 23 czerwca 2012.

^^^ I need to print this onto a greetings card. Done a bit of research on the internet and found that the letter 'z' in Polish has two different kinds of 'marks' above it. Anyone know which one I should use, please?

Also, is the month written with a small letter, rather than a capital letter, in Polish?

I think it's "Congratulations on your wedding" then the names and date of the marriage.

I've worked this out: "Grątułąćję ź ókąźji śłubu dłą Jułity & Mątęuśźą, 23 ćźęrwćą 2012" - but I'm puzzled about the mark above the 'z', and I'm not sure if my capitals are in the right place (or missing).

Oh bu88er, I've just typed it into one of the many on-line translators and it's come up with "Congratulations on your wedding angina". That can't be right. :o(

Pmsl well i was spouting my freshly learned polish at a christening.....full
Of polish guests ....was saying my friend was the "mummy" of a baby...

My polish pal said errrrr thats an egyptian mummy ...lol DOH xx

It never ceases to amaze me that people continue to do that! All "translation" sites are utter, utter garbage.

I agree with you Mark, I told the person asking me to make the card that I won't use one as they're not reliable.

I tried it though, as I thought it might just help, and it did. I want the greeting to relate to a wedding, and it does, according to the on-line translation, so that's a start.

Tinks, do you have any idea when you should use the slanting mark over the 'z', and when you should use the horizontal mark?

As someone with a degree in foreign languages who works occasionally as a professional translator, please trust me that neither Google nor wiki knows, nor does ANY on-line translation "service" which isn't staffed by humans.

You really do run the risk of saying something COMPLETELY inappropriate. The classic one was when "out of sight, out of mind" was translated as "she was blind and insane"...

The word "angina" definitely came up on one of the translations, so I know what Mark means. :o(

On the plus side, one of them did say it meant "Congratulations on your wedding" - and that's what I want it to say.
