The Book Of Eli

13:07 Wed 30th Jun 2010 |

The Book Of Eli is a post apocalyptic drama. Directed by the Hughes brothers (From Hell) and staring Denzel Washington (Eli), Gary Oldman (Carnegie), Jennifer Beals (Claudia) and Mila Kunis (Solara) the film is the story of Eli’s journey and struggle to deliver a copy of the Bible to a safe location.

Viewers of the film are impressed with Washington’s restrained performance, yet he still manages to be an action hero. Oldman is a classic over the top villain in this almost spaghetti western style film. Also impressive are the scenes of the twisted landscape America has become and the lengths to which people will go to ensure their own survival.

The film is set in an American that has been ravaged by a nuclear war thirty years ago. The landscape is blisteringly stark and bleak. Eli has set put on a mission to deliver the last St James Bible possibly on Earth in to the West of America. There are no cars, trains or any infrastructure of any sort so he is walking and has been doing so for three years.

The film is based on an original script by Gary Whitta who has also written for Star Trek: Voyager and Futurama.
