Love Actually

09:03 Fri 30th Jul 2010 |

Love Actually is one of the best romantic comedy films of all time. The film is another classic written by Richard Curtis who also brought us Four Weddings and Funeral and Bridget Jones. The all star ensemble cast includes Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Martin Freeman which undoubtedly contributed to the success of the film.

The film was a huge box office hit as it tapped into the pre-Christmas market. Many critics of the film claim that there are too many plotlines and the overall theme of love is excessively sweet and not very realistic. However, audiences loved the film and found many aspects that rang true about the bitter sweet nature of love and relationships.

The hugely talented cast brings the film to life and viewers could really relate to them and their stories. This made the film believable and is in part why it has been so successful.

The opening and closing scenes take place at airport arrivals and the genuine love and happiness of reunited friends and family really brings home the message that the world is a much better place than many of us realise. The rest of the film is devoted to the intertwined storylines of the ensemble cast and how they are dealing with the relationships in their lives.
