11:38 Fri 16th Jul 2010 |

Letters To Juliet is a romantic comedy. The film is set in Verona, Italy the supposed setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Amanda Seyfried, Christopher Egan, Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero and was directed by Gary Winick who is an old hand at the quirky romantic comedy.

The film was reasonably well received at the box office but it was an instant hit with audiences. The performance of Amanda Seyfried was seen as delightful and charming by many viewers and she is now able to carry a leading role which is a step forwards from her ensemble cast in Mama Mia! The film was described as refreshing and adorable, this was not doubt helped by the beautiful scenery in Italy which was filled with light and colour.

Many viewers found the film although good was superbly enhanced by Vanessa Redgrave’s performance and that she brought a special warmth and heart that may have otherwise been lacking.

At the supposed home of Juliet in Verona lovers write her letters to ask advice about love and relationships, these are collected and answered by a group of women called ‘Juliet’s secretaries’. Amanda’s character finds an old letter and decides to reply herself. When the author of the letter arrives with her grandson the three begin to search for her long lost love, a man named Lorenzo.
