Apparently the Government is planning to announce tax breaks for married couple "before the next election"

Governments that announce tax cuts shortly before elections are usually accused - probably rightly - of trying to bribe the electorate.

Is this a cunning ploy to avert such criticism when tax cuts come in just before an election?

wonder how high the tax allowance will be, considering the cost of a wedding. if people really wanted to get married they would do, regardless of any tax break, wouldnt they?
Probably. But its not going to do a lot for the single vote.

When you consider there is a school of thought that says we can get where we need to be but at a slower pace, i.e less severe cuts. I would say its medicine first for the Torys and if they win sugar after.
sounds like a panic reaction to criticisms of Osborne's speech yesterday. I'm not sure it's a government's job to encourage marriage anyway, considering how easy it is to end them and how people (like Miliband) manage to make perfecly good parents without marrying.

Don't get me wrong I think it's a great idea - said so myself on a thread earlier today before this broke.

Just a bit suspicious that we're seeing a new trend of politicians trying to stage manage the policies of an entire 5 year term with "vote for us" sugar pills planned into the final days.
They should get re elected because they are mainly pi55ting off those that don't vote Tory anyway, workshy scum, lefties, guardianistas, public sector workers, union members etc etc. Reference the amount of lefties whinning here lately!
Ah here he goes again with the inflammatory sh!t-stirring misinformed rubbish.
R1 - you forgot commies, pinkoes, long haired weirdos, namby-pamby probation officers, gypsies etc etc
Just what exactly is mis informed about R1's statement?

Seems spot on to me

I think it's quite likely that one half of the coalition may find itself back in Government next time Geezer.

Probably not the half you want to see back though
I had no idea you were a racists Answerprancer! Well I never,. takes all sorts I guess
It always seems to me that if you care about the "country" as a whole you vote Tory.

If all you care about is making sure you continue to get your state handout for doing nothing you vote Labour.

Blair/Brown did almost nothing for the "country" as whole, just made sure all those on benefits did better and better, putting the country into a huge debt.
Perhaps jake, but at least we get a chance to reverse Noo Labour's profligate spending on it's own supporters eh?
Mainly because it's loaded with presumption and generalisation - it would seem 'spot on' to you because you're another of the small hanful of rabid, drooling white-faced fascists that lurk here.
eg. "the amount of lefties whinning (sic) here lately". It seems to this individual that anyone who opposes his extremist bile-loaded 'ideals' is a 'lefty'.
Hey R1 "am I not allowed to have my opinion" Geezer - did you just report my first post here and get it removed ? That was a bit cowardly don't you think ?
That would be, roughtly translated, you are not lefty enough YMB! PMSL
Wht do you think I'm "a racists" R1 ?
*why (sorry)

Really VHG

It always seems entirely the reverse to Me

Tories stand for the perpetuation of priviledge - just look at them - more Eton men than you can shake a stick at running policies that look after their own.

They opposed the minimum wage violently - tales of how it would bankrupt the country - strangly reversing it doesn't now seem to be on the agenda

There's the first thing that Blair gave the country

How about the Good Friday Agreement?

Maggie "did not do deals with terrorists" - how long was peace in Northern Ireland delayed because of her intransigence

That's the next thing Blair gave the country.

Let's go back in history a bit - The Open University - Wilson's vision -derided by the Tories has given a second chance of Education to millions

The NHS must have saved the lives of millions of Britains - can you imagine any Tory government having that vision?

In contrast big Tory ideas are encourgaing people to buy their houses with mortgages from their banker chums and buying shares in the companies they and their friends are directors of.
VHG

Not forgetting the £185billion handout to the banks. Oh, and they are going to nedd more £££billions next year. I can imagine many voters not being too happy about that.
