Mayor of Casterbridge - my daughter is having to read it now in school and I was talking to her English teacher last night. He said there was a DVD adaptation that was true to the book but a bit long and tedious

I said if it's long and tedious then it's definately true to the book - we laughed but agreed to differ.

I didn't have to read 5 people you meet in Heaven but I did

Some books should not be set aside lightly - they should be thrown with great force!

It was almost as if someone had been asked to sit down and write a book to pluck at people's heartstrings - It was contrived over sentimental and I felt my intelligence quite insulted by the time I'd finished it.

If there's a book I'd like to burn it's that one

I read the 5 people you meet in heaven and considered it thought provoking, although a light-weight and slightly bizarre read.
I think it was a lot worse than that Ummmm!

What's worse is that I'd just finished reading "the saddlebag" which was so much more thought provoking and subtle
Same as me then. I couldn't even finish it...it bored me to tears.
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome. Had to read this in Junior School and it was so booooring!
I still laugh to myself when I see the book in charity shops and remember that we got the giggles at someone
called Titty! That was the most interesting bit.
