80's programe mechanical dragon

In late 80's or early 90's i watched a programme can't remember much about it but it was live action about a young boy who didn't get on with his Father and then he went in this warehouse and there was this big mechanical dragon or something that was speaking to him and then at the end the dragon was flying in the sky.
Does anybody remember this or did i just dream this all up?
