HDD recorder problem - can I copy off it?

My Panasonic HDD DVD Recorder (DMR-EX75) has a problem in that the DVD drive has failed. I will have to replace the whole thing as it's out of warranty (unless someone tells me its easy to replace the DVD drive??!). However I have lots of recordings on the hard drive I would like to keep. Can I copy the recordings from this recorder to the new Panasonic one I buy? How would I do it? Thanks!
