Thanks daniela31 and cab, at least simon had the grace to admit he made a mistake on his song choice, now to throw a spanner in the works was there also a version of yeh yeh in the late 80s early 90s as georgie fame is the version the OH remembers but not the one im thinking of. ta.

Found it, the version im thinking of was by matt bianco from 1985.

The song was crap but Simon is the only judge who has the balls to say he cocked it up and he will criticise his own acts and has voted off one of his own acts over another judges acts - wheras Yes Yes Louis Walsh doesn't even have the balls to choose between his own too acts
