A floater are 'bits of imaginary debris' that you can 'see' in your normal field of vision that makes you want to rub your eye to clear them, however these so called 'floaters' can be a sign of high blood pressure.
Floaters are not "imaginary". They are tiny pieces of debris floating in the fluid in your eyes. I have had them for many years. Most of the time they go unnoticed but if I'm looking at a white or light-coloured background they are more obtrusive, for example when the ground is covered with snow.
I have floaters....they're bloody irritating...

Just see bits of black spec float across my eye every now and then... havent had them for a while though..
nat, keep a check of your floaters as when pregnant they can be a sign of high BP which needs checking by midwife.
Thanks redcrx - also need to now keep check of my sugar and iron levels as the results from my blood test came back extremely borderline to abnormal. e.g. my sugar levels were at 7.6 and past 7.7 i think they diagnose diabetes. So they have to keep an eye on my urine samples for traces of sugar.

Also my iron levels had shot down so thats another thing they'll be keeping an eye on - otherwise i'll have to take iron supplements.

*sorry to move completely away from ur question cocopops! x*
will drop you an email nat x
I was told by a doctor that almost everyone has floaters, they are not necessarily caused by high bp unless accompanied by spots (as well as floaters) and bad regular headaches.

I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy and although my bp was 165/120 I had no abnormal floaters (just regular ones like most people have posted here)

I still have them now and my bp is 125/68
They can also be an early sign of developing cataracts.
floaters are just dead cells that float around behind the eyes, everyone has them and they arent a problem.
I had bad eye floaters in both eyes about a year ago,but found this great cure on the net it took about a 3 weeks to cure up properly and I only get one or two every now and then come up but they soon dissapear.
But am not going to tell you how to cure them.
Only joking. Your natural reaction is to try to look at them and that is a fatal mistake the more you do that the worse it gets what you do is just try to stare straight through them,it will take a while to get the hang of it but it works in the end.
An example of what you are doing is something you do when your driving,do you ever really notice all the little specks etc on your windscreen you dont really do you and what you are doing is just staring straight through them at the road ahead and its the same principle with floaters.
But dont get downhearted when you cant get the hang of doing it straight away I can guarantee that it will work with a bit of practise.
It is also advisable to see the doctor as well just to be on the safe side as stewey says they could be early signs of cataracts but this is highly unlikely.........
Good luck..
They are a nuisance make you go cross- eyed following them.
its not floaters that are a sign of high blood pressure, its more like lightening flashes. I had pre-eclampsia and I had many more signs before they turned up.

Your brain learns to ignore the floaters, so you shouldnt see them at all if you end up with some debris in the back of your eye. Its only when its dangerous debris will they pop your eye out and give it a clean. Euwwww!
