My neighbour asked me to look at one of his headlights( twin filament bulb) that was not working.I checked the fuse which was OK. High beam works
On closer inspection the filament of the bulb was glowing albeit very dim. Would this point to a earth problem.

Might do - or a connection.

The circuit is completed to earth (in 99% of vehicles) so you've got some big resistance in there.

Has water gotten in and corroded the bulb holder? or around an Earth point?

Give both a good clean up with sandpaper
....or, that the filament in question is about to fail. Try the other bulb in that unit and see if it's the bulb or connection.

Thanks for the replies. As gingejbee suggested the bulb was giving in . Swapped it for another and all fine.
