My mum-in-law is at the end of her tether with her 19yr old son. He has aspergers syndrome and a temper problem. Since he was 2 years old she has had problems with him, especially with him swearing and hurling abuse at her.

She has been to see doctors/social workers who all say he doesn't have a problem (they haven't seen him in action!) even though he has told them himself what he is like. She has been through countless doors when he's put his fist through them. She has been on anti-depressants for years.

After yet another episode again today she has had enough. She can't kick him out as he can't work and doesn't have the social skills to be able to look after himself.

Are there any organisations she can turn to that can provide accomodation/assisted living etc? I've tried looking on the local council website but it only talks about children and older people, nothing for young adults.

Any help/advise greatly appreciated.

has he never been diagnosed with Aspergers? I'm sure they have a charity/helpline that could advise you.
How about these people?

Oh, I see Ive been beaten to it!
she needs to push for a referral, most gp's fob people off these days. you can only get help when you have the diagnosis, he can then apply for assisted living schemes.
Get to your doctors with him if you can and tell him everything insist that he gets assesed, also get the police and social services involved i have been going through the very same thing it as taken 15 months and is a very slow process but at last i think that we are starting to getting somewhere.
Keep at them until you get him the help that you both need.
Good luck.
