Now I know that, inexplicably lots of people watch them, but surely the story lines are getting ever more desparate in their batttle for the sub 85 IQ viewers. Is it time to move them after the watershed? No other program with the content of modern soaps would get on before 9pm. I haven't actualy watched an episode for over 20 years but I've seen plenty of trailers and the papers report it as if it's news. If I switch one on by accident It's like getting in a bath that's too hot and I desparately reach for the remote! Anyway I have nevr accidentally happenned upon something nice happenning so are they all doom and gloom? Why do people watch this drivel?

You tell me R1G, I'm afraid I share your views these days on this subject.
I love soaps R1......thanks for the compliments.
I don't watch any of them, but I saw a programme a while ago where they showed part of an episode of Coronation Street where Ethel was trying to persuade Dot to help her die - and it was absolutely brilliant!! It had me practically in tears. Fabulous script, superb acting - in fact it had me wondering why I didn't watch Coronation Street regularly - so maybe that's why people watch.
Good job it was in East Enders then Naomi....
Yeah right naomi!! Get outa here.
That was Eastenders naomi, some time ago when soaps were better.

so craft as a regular watcher is the content now post or pre watershed in your opinion?
I watch EE but that was more because my kids were into it. I'll happily sit and watch...but I wouldn't mind if I missed it either. Don't watch Corrie or Emerdale.

I prefer programmes like Holby City or Casualty. You don't need to follow them so it doesn't matter if you miss them.
Was it? Oh dear - told you I didn't watch them.

It was good though.

How funny! Haaaa!
I think some of the content is slightly dodgy now because children seem to go to bed later. Until my child started secondary school she was in bed for 7:30, I certainly wouldn't have let her watch the soaps as they are nowadays.
Heaven forbid craft. Anyone remember watching Peyton Place? Now that put the soaps to shame.

So you agree they should be post watershed
Or children should go to bed earlier. I know people who keep their young children up until long past 9pm so really it's up to parents to decide what their children should watch.
That's just what I was going to say Craft. My kids would know about all of the subjects they cover.
I don't usually comment on your posts as I am not a 'news person' but you do seem, to me, to enjoy stirring the broccoli. I have EE and Corrie on and would presume that my IQ exceeds 85 (as I have a degree) - why can't you just take it as what it is, 'entertainment'?
Exactly Sherr,We're all university people here IQ doesn't come into it Geezer I'm an EE and Corrie fan too Who makes you an authority on it if you don't watch it? and also how can you call it drival You don't watch it so HOW DO YOU 'kin' know. Doh!

I bet you're one of those that watch 'Eggheads'
My wife watches most of them religiously, so by default so do I. To be honest I find the story lines infuriating, and yes it all seems to be to attract the most viewers.

The current Eastenders baby swap storyline is in very bad taste, and very difficult to watch.

I am really boring though and prefer the History and Crime channels ha ha
Don't watch EE because it is, as you said, doom and gloom. I also don't find it realistic in that if you went to where it was supposed to be set, the quota of white people in it is wrong. Not being racist saying that either, it's a fact it's a cultural hotch potch. Emmerdale is just ridiculous given it all happens in that tiny village, so again, not realistic. That said, I love corrie - I don't know or care how realistic it is, all I know is every now and then it makes me laugh with the sort of one liners you hear in real life.
Lol Jem; I can't stand Eggheads! Don't mind Corrie if it's on though; I think some of it is quite amusing!
I can't stand any of the soaps, they are boring and depressing.

They must appeal to a lot of other people though otherwise they would have been pulled from the schedules a long time ago.
