On more than one occasion, the narrator spoke of the bear's 'surprising intelligence and curiosity'. I would have thought that a mammal that has evolved for several million years and continues to thrive in one of the most inhospitable habitats imaginable is self evidently curious and intelligent.
If Polar Bears were not intelligent and were therefore unable to adapt and solve relatively complex problems, they wouldn't now be around for us to film and admire.
I know my post is totally off-topic... it just bugs me how humans seem to be constantly 'surprised' that their fellow mammals are actually very, very intelligent indeed.

I loved the programme too although I refuse to believe there was no human present for filming. Some of the camera shots were different from the ones you would get from the various cameras they showed and one of the spy cameras had made it's way down some pretty rocky area (you could see in the shot from another camera). How did that get there?
