anyone know where i can get one of these fairly cheap for a rover 214 1998, ive spent ages changing the manifold gasket only to find its blowing at the cat aswell! gutted!

Remove it and just put a length of pipe in it's place.

cheaper and you'll get a little more performance from the car (and you'll need it with a 214!)

isnt it illegal to do that?
No.

And there is no requirement to have a cat for the MOT test either, as long as the car passes the emissions test for that age (which it should do if it's running right) it's not a problem.
And will it's emissions pass the MOT?
There are a number on Ebay around £50
