Nashville and Memphis -where to stay?

Husband and I are going on dream holiday in September (well, hopefully it will be a dream holiday). We have booked flights and now looking at hotels.
In Nashville, the Grand Old Opry seems a long way from downtown and we wonder if it's best to stay near the Opry and travel the 15 miles downtown or vice versa?
Then, in Memphis, Beale Street seems to be at the centre of things, but will it be too noisy? At 50+, we need our sleep!
Has anyone been to these cities and have any advice or recommendations please?

hopefully the opry will be fully restored by then, after the recent extensive flood damage that displaced the shows to other venues - maybe check with the opry themselves, you'll then be better placed to look for accommodation.
We're all hoping, as mushroom25 states, that the Opry will be restored soon. If that's the case I'd suggest you check out The *** Opryland Hotel complex adjacent to the Opry... it's a great place to stay... and, of course, easy to access the Opry...

Welcome to the U.S., by the way...

P.S.
I've found this site reliable... check it for Memphis digs...

The starred out word in my previous is G aylord Complex... (stupid bots!)
Lucky you, I have always wanted to go to Nashville!
... And, insert "ga ylord" in the URL, wiithout my self-imposed space....
