Cable?
What a farce. The LDs get their first ever chance of a bit of power and then have this embarassment. Mr Clegg must be fuming.

Its already been decided. They're quick off the mark

Lib Dem Scottish Secretary Danny Alexander will take over the post, Downing Street has announced
Laws speedy resignation on the basis of maximum damage limitation to the Coalition is to be welcomed. We really need the Coalition to work if we are to avoid the worst of the economic crisis we are in.
I cannot believe that details of Laws' private life and queries about his expenses claims were unknown before his appointment, if not to Cameron, then at least to Clegg. Obviously Clegg pushed for his appointment, which calls into question his own judgement. Given the unrest we have seen already from both sides of the coalition (especially the back benches), I think it highly unlikely to survive much beyond Xmas, and I for one will not be sorry. Rather principled opposition than this meretricious alliance.
Is he resigning as an MP as well?

It's a shame Danny Alexander has been pulled from Sec of State for Scotland - he actually seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.
Had he been Labour, Brown would have backed him to the teeth.
