I think the stadium you speak of is the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan (aka The San Siro (named after a saint)). Opened in 1926, it was a gift to AC milan from their then president Piero Pirelli (he of the tyre fame). It's original capacity was only 10000 but after several rebuids and renovations, including the one in 1989 pior to the world cup in italy, it now has a capacity of 85000.
