the older boys worked , my Mum would never have a bean from the state
so we all worked , no option but a blooming good grounding for the rest
of your life , and my Mum is still alive and head of the family !!!

i earned £2 .15s .6p. i had to tip up to my mother £2. the rest was all mine!! i went to the funfair and blew 10s on stick the card with a dart.

Tipped it up to my mother,I got 10 shillings but I was saving up to get married so I had to save 5 shillings of it. The rest went on stockings and 5 Woodbines a day, and a few bits of things. It's was tough up north.

I went down to woolworths and bought "Big Log" by Robert Plant on 12" and a box of chocolates for my mum.

I bought a tent and went camping in Littlehampton with my sister for a weekend.. Ahh the memories.. Wham on the duke box in the 'youth centre' (Yes, I know - Rock and Roll lifestyle!!)

I have noticed a change as the years progressed,some older abers gave to their mums,and younger ones just bought what they wanted lol
