Anybody know of a good grooming device for tidying up the unruly fur of my dog. Dont want to get him to get him completely cut as it is too cold. Thanks for any answers.

google furminator, they are the bees knees
I have a long haired dog and I have tried many gadgets in my time but really the most effective way to groom is with a comb. Just do it regularly and it keeps the coat tidy as well as stripping out the dead hairs. I also have a 'knot buster' which is just a sharp blade inside a hooked handle that breaks up knots so that you don't use scissors which could inadvertantly cut the skin.
You can use a stripping comb [de-matting comb] which looks like an ordinary comb but has a kind of blade by each tooth. You use it like an ordinary comb. It's not for knots but to generally remove 'dead' hair and tidy the coat. It thins out the coat somewhat.
this is really great for removing tangles

called up my local pet shop and they dont sell furminator
Please note - a furminator is no good for dogs that don't moult eg Bedlingtons or Poodles as it only takes out dead hair that is coming out anyway. Any dog that has to be clipped for this reason cannot have a furminator used on them.
