I think it should have been Dr Who. Not because I am a fan in any way, just that it came back from the dead in a big way and is now a huge international success for the beeb. Quite an achievement considering.

I like James May but can't stand the other two so I never watch TG
It's only a half hour weekly show but the repeats and merchandise and spin offs are making the stars and producers millions. This Christmas jeremy clarkson has had 4 books on sale, ricvhard hammond 4 books, james may 2 books, then there the actual top gear titles, at least 4, then the stig books and toys, thousands of those sold, then the dvds, at least 6 titles all top gear related. it's a money making machine,
i love Top Gear (tho i agree it's beginning to lose itself a bit and go OTT)

But i agree with Postdog, Dr Who should have been number one...it's been a tremendous comeback for a series that was dead.

tg is on for an hour.
I didnt really get this poll as most of the really good programmes were missing? I watched it and was wondering what the criteria for qualifying was? Does anyone know as i missed the first 5 minutes.
Where was the Wire, Sopranos, West Wing, Deadwood, Band of Brothers to list just a few of the top of my head!
the whole thing seemed weighted towards British TV shows, very much so.
Well at first i thought it might only be british shows but they had Friends in there so that wasnt the case, i found the whole thing quite baffling!
Im sorry but i dont think that Top Gear , Dr Who or the Apprentice are better than any of the US shows that i listed. I wish we could make decent drama's but the Americans just seem to have the knack of rolling them out one after the other. Perhaps it is their massive budgets that help !
I personally think that Deadwood is the best thing i have ever seen on Television.
I used to like TG when it reviewed cars that were in a normal person range and added their special brand of humour, now they have become egotistical and pour scorn on anything british in favour of german/italian supercars, same old crap over and over again
Deadwood wasn't in there, and I knwo it ended less that 10 years ago so why wasn't Angel there? Bones wasn't mentioned either, none of the big US shows were, they mentioned Friends cos channel 4 show it all the time and i think they invested in it. (sure they did) , i watched the other show done by the same production team last night on the top 20 songs of the decade, Snow patrol Chasing Cars was number 1, Garth Brooks never got a look in grrrr but neither did Mika, what was that about?
Top Gear is just about the only TV show I watch these days apart from QI and the occasional documentary.

I don't understand why a show like Top Gear, which is formayyed to it's core with a potentially narrow appeal and such a specific target audience by both gender and age group can come out on top. The production values are quite basic and though it attracts big name guests occasionally, they are limited to the one segment of the show which really is for the presenters to revel in not the guest.
In actual fact, why were the shows lumped in together, why was there not a drama/ fictional category and then a factual/reality category, surely that would have given a fairer view of what people watch and appreciate.
Dont get me wrong i love Top Gear but just as a bit of fun its certainly not an informative Car programme like it used to be. I still dont think that it is the best show in the last ten years though.
Perhaps it was one of these polls that when you vote you can only choose from a list that is supplied to you and doesnt include everything?
Yes Sooper, in other words, a contrived result.
Yes thats what i suspected, so not an accurate or fair portrayal of what is indeed the most popular show!
It doesnt surprise me, i also didnt agree with the Top song of the decade either that was on last night!
I dont know why i watch these type programmes as they always make me angry but i always do!
Top Gear was great a couple of years ago. Now just seems to be daft stunts.
