Does anyone remember this fantastic film?
It was set in a comprehensive school circa late 70s/early 80s.
The jist was that a couple of lads conered the market of lunch time meal tokens, this allowed them to control the school economy which then crashed bringing about their downfall.
The main thing I remember it for was a great choriographed dance scene to Muds Tiger Feet.
I think the film was a BBC production and I've written to them but they were of no help.

There's some info here: http://www.starcrest.de/fiction_documentary/token_king_eng.htm . Having seen the page, I remember the sequence with them all riding their "Choppers". If you go to the homepage, there are some contact details. Unfortunately you might need to write to them in German...

thanks eversomuch LeMarchand, I can't speak a word of German fortunately my daughter can!

The Token King was shown on Channel 4

It was directed by Ray Kilby ( I think that is the correct spelling ). He directed it before or as he joined Passion Pictures ( there is nothing on the Passion website about it as it was years ago ).

He gathered together all the Chopper bikes he could find for some sequences.

Ray went on to direct on Eastenders as well as theatre.

He directed a three part drama for Tiger Aspect that was shown on Channel 4 around Easter. The working title was The Stuff of Life, but that was changed before transmission, so I don't know what it went out as. I was an extra in that, so wanted to see it...

Thanks tony, I'll email Ray Kilby's agent, worth a try.

Yes, that was a great film. In fact, as I still have it on tape, I may go and watch it again.

Warning - Spoiler !

Shouldn't that be his downfall, as he gets stiffed by the girl in the end, when she plants all the tokens in his locker. Why do women always do this to us.... *sob*.. *blubber*

I agree, it's a great film, snelson !!

Was this the film that was filmed at frank wheldon school or as its now known The wheldon school in carlton?? As i believe it was on channel 4.
