I know it's only a soap, but isn't it time the amount of people using the Laundrette on the square in Eastenders went down. I don't know anyone, who doesn't own their own Washing Machine.

Tonight's episode showed the youngest Masood son, telling his father and brother their mother wanted them to go to the Laundrette to wash some T Shirts. The type of person Zainab Masood is, she would never entertain the idea of using a public washing machine.

Hi Poodi, yes all is well, had a nice weekend away with the other half. Hope you are well too x
I don't watch Eastenders but I'll be going to the laundrette in Ipswich tomorrow. It's a thriving business and, while most of their trade is 'service washes', the people who're doing their own washes are just as likely to be reading the Financial Times as the Sun.

People who've got their own washing machines (which I haven't) often still use laundrettes for 'non-personal' washes. For example, the secretaries of local football teams will wash the soccer kits there.

Each area will also have specific needs local to that area. For example, the laundrette I use is near to the docks. Some of the big ships have several dozen crew. When they've been at sea for a month, they all take their washing into the laundrette at once and things get really hectic!

Perhaps some of Albert Square's market traders find it convenient to drop their washing into the laundrette, for a service wash, first thing in the morning and then collect it when they pack up? ;-)

Chris
I think it would be more realistic if some of them didn't work on the same street they live in, and perhaps had cars :o)
Yes Chris, I used our local laundrette to wash 2 large bolster pillows.

Hairdressers and beauty salons use them to wash their towels. I expect pubs sometimes use them to wash drip mats.

But I do think they push the boundaries in Eastenders, especially homes with kids. Perhaps when Dot croaks they will stop using the launderette so much although its a good place for people to discuss their secrets without anyone overhearing unlike the cafe or the pub.

I think it's strange that they go to the cafe for a cup of tea when they only live a few doors away.

I go to my local cafe sometimes
I personally would save a pound and go home if I lived a few doors down from my cafe.

bit like pub, go to meet mates or just get out read a paper
its just the character of the programe corrie has the cabin, which for the size of it and what they sell would of closed by now due to the credit crunch, and eastenders has the launderette its a soap and doesnt reflect real life

And how come none of the residents in any Soap have friends outside of where they live?

Whenever there's a special ocassion like a stag or hen night, it's only the immediate neighbours who turn up. I don't even know anyone on my street.
I dont watch the show as a rule , however i sometimes stop for a brief glance , when i'm passing, on my way channel hopping ( in fact I dont think i've ever watched a complete episode , since it started. Am I odd ?)

Yes , I've always thought it strange to see someone standing on their doorstep , looking at a market on the other side of the road .

I know it is a soap opera , but I thought it was suppose to mirror real life - if that is suppose to be the case , then I must be living in utopia , given that my family life does not experience half the problems of the story lines .

Are families out there so dysfunctionl ?
here it is - 'a'
And, with the exception of Ians twins, all pregnancies are unplanned.
BTW, how are you felling Velvetee?
