Was here today and informed me that my dog was barking.

My dog lives with me inside the house day and night - sleeps in my bedroom but obviously when I let him out for a bit of air he barks at the birds and children playing and screming. What can I do I keep him as quiet as I possibly can

God forbid, a dog barking- who'd hare thunk it? LOL

Seriously, what did the cretinous dog warden think you could do about it?

Personally, I'd have told him to sod off whilst I was laughing at him.

As long as your dog can't actually get at the children (and probably vice versa) I don't think you have a problem.
apart from doping him, would a muzzle work
Why should the dog be muzzled? He's only barking, I'd be more annoyed by the ankle biters screaming their heads off than I would be by a dog.
Obviously somebody must have reported it for a dog warden to turn up.

As long as the dog has'nt hurt anyone, I can't see the problem.
I am an animal love BUT the continuous barking of a dog. particularly a little "yappy dog" can be annoying.

Telling the dog warden to "sod off" is not a smart move.
Not continous though is it sqad? Connemarra has already said that the dog is inside day and night, so i'm assuming that his barking is for short periods of time.

I'm sorry, but I'm of the belief that the dog has as much right to be out and about in his own property, making a noise, as much as other peoples children have in theirs.
I'd be interested in any suggestions too. I have the same problem with my dog barking at anything that moves when we let her out in the front garden. I live in a quiet village so it must annoy the hell out of the neighbours as it certainly drives us nuts.

Don't be bothering with those anti-bark collars Connemmara. Tried one and it didn't work, well actually it fell apart before it ever had any chance of being effective. At 25 it went straight back where it came from! We've also tried a seperate sonic thingy that triggers a high pitched noise that only dogs can hear whenever they bark. It's supposed to irritate them and they eventually learn not to bark or they set off the noise (similar to the bark collar principle). That didn't work either. Tried the old trick of spraying her with water whenever she barked and praising her when she stops and...yeah...you guessed...it didn't work!
do you think someone nearby has reported you?
BOO....I agree...if it is for short periods, whatever that is, then perhaps so, but I don't agree that animals or children can make a noice in their own property to the annoyance of others.

"****** you Charlie, I'm all right " is far too common in the UK.
I agree with Sqad

We all have the right 'quiet enjoyment' of our property.

Dog training classes is the answer.
And yet no one has mentioned the "screaming children"? I'm sorry, but kids screaming their heads off for hours on end would annoy me far more than any dog barking for 10 minutes or so.

Is there an authority you can contact if children playing annoys you?
a child tends to grow out of screaming
I agree Boo..........and dogs don't go up and down on roller skates or kick their ball into your garden..............well at least mine doesn't...........
aww craft, didnt you play games as a child?
Yes, boo - and ASBOs have been issued for children playing football in the street; and using a trampoline in their garden.
Well im sure that's a reassurance to someone who has to listen to toddlers screaming in their gardens Cazzz, that they'll grow out of that phase in about 10 years.
I did cazzz............in the local play park.....
lol @ 10 year old toddlers

(glad I didn't live next to it)....
Jolly glad to hear it Ethel, get em back down mines and up chimneys, that'll soon quiten them down!
