it is set many thousands of years in the future.man has settled on a planet and has been there for all of (modern)recorded history.their mortal enemy is the cylons who destroy this planet.what remains of mankind are travelling thru space looking for this mystical planet called 'earth'.

Its a 're-imagining' of the old movie & series.  The story is similar, using most of the old characters but giving them different personalities (& bodies).

Personally, I'm not so sure about it yet.  On the one hand the original BG was pretty naff (but that doesn't stop me still loving it!) & the new series is clearly trying to put an intelligent, darker, more adult spin on things.  On the other hand BG was simply great fun.  The good guys were dashing, heroic & witty & the bad guys - well they were evil shiny robots with an evil glowing red 'eye' and menacing '80's style evil robot voices.  I'm glad they haven't just re-hashed everything but for me I've a feeling it's lost too much of the original charm.

You may be interested to know that a few years ago Richard Hatch (who played Apollo in the original) tried to get another movie BG made that was closer to the original style. Here's a couple of links if you are interested

the onyl thing i dont like about the remake is the cylons !

they were much better when they were robots with knight rider eyes !!!! the clones just arent the same

new series is great. i was not sure to begin with, having fond memories of the original series, but i really do think the new series has improved on the original. The cylons in the original series were just there, no reason for their existence or history. the new series makes it clear that mankind created the Cylons, and as seen in many SciFi films etc (Terminator for example) the robots rebelled against their masters. This rebellion took place before the new series, and it culminated in the First Cylon War which ended 40 years before the start of the new series. Now during the second Cylon War a massive suprise attack has all but wiped out the twelve colonies of man, and the survivors are now heading towards the mythical planet of 'earth'. A common mistake is to place BG in the future. It isnt, it is set during here and now. Earth is the thirteenth colony not the first. In the first series they eventually did reach earth.
