Inspector Morse's name was finally revealed as Endeavour. No wonder he didn't like using it. Just absolutely loved John Thaw.

Apparently there was morse-code (or music that sounded like morse-code) at the beginning of each programme that spelled out E-N-D-E-A-V-O-U-R.

yeah, he was named endeavour, because his father was obsessed with all things relating to explorer Captain Cook. the morse code actually spelt out morse, and the name of the villain...
