For an awful minute, I thought you asked:

How long before power rations our Brussells?

Brussels even!
energy sources seem to be gradually running low, so I guess some form of rationing will happen some day. Ukrainians are feeling the pinch already. You could say it's being rationed already, by price, with the poorest least able to gain access to it. In that case rationing may seem sensible. Remember, rationing was introduced in wartime to make sure everyone got a share of their daily needs rather than having to queue for scarce goods or deal with the black market.

Obviously I wouldn't believe this since it was in the Mail, but it appeared in the Independent the day before so I know they've just stolen it rather than made it up...
Well I hope you won't mind the new power stations we'll need to cope with all the extra demand being built down the road from you.

Or moaning when the gas to run them gets cut off and we get power cuts
I see the usual scaremongering of the lefty liberal dictators of which Jake is a fan.

No, thre is plenty of countryside available so very few need be affected. And no they dont need gas they can be nuclear - as the French.

It is the failure of THIS Government to get off its backside and build them - or allow them to be built.

We will pay the panalty for listening to the idiots that prevent Nuclear stations.

That's two spelling mistakes in the same number of days smudge.

See how easy it is?

You started off by posting quite a sensible answer, but then your anti 'Mail' gene kicked in and spoiled it.

it appeared in the Independent the day before so I know they've just stolen it

Wasn't you amongst the other anti 'Mail' brigade that took a dig at me when I once criticised the Guardian of stealing a Daily Mail story?

More gas storage facilities are also needed.

<i.The fact is that the UK has storage capacity for no more than a fortnight's gas supply. France has storage facilities for about 18 weeks, Germany for about 15 weeks.
Ah, but I corrected myself AOG! ;o}

As you will see, I never usually pick people up on their spelling misktakes as we all make them & I'm not that petty. But when you have someone constantly picking at your posts, ( & not just mine), they don't like it when you reciprocate!

Have a lovely day.
that bit was just a little joke, oldgit! Of course they didn't steal it, it was a perfectly normal follow-up to a story that first broke elsewhere.

My main point was perfectly serious, though: rationing is a good measure to ensure everyone gets their fair share of scarce resouces. The alternative is that the lion's share goes to the rich, or to those who know the right people.

As for nuclear power stations, I suspect they're like jails: everyone wants them... somewhere else. Would anyone accept having one built next door to them in return for, say, 10% off power prices?

smudge

But when you have someone constantly picking at your posts,

Isn't this what this site is all about? It isn't 'picking at your posts' as you put it, it is called entering into a debate from one's point of view.

One has the right to agree or disagree with one another, granted it usually ends up with heated debate when the posters are arguing from a different point of view.

You will also notice smudge that I don't usually get nasty unless a person is aggressive, rude or insulting to me first.

Another point that I tend to defend, is my freedom of choice to read and post from any newspaper, or from any other source that I wish.
Ah, but the difference is AOG, some others have posted similar, or the same sentiments as me on some threads, but if you don't agree, you, more often than not, choose to pick bones with mine.

Ne'er mind, I have pretty broad shouders!

Have a nice afternoon. ;o}

I'd vote for a Party that would promise to find a way to make us Self sufficient in Food and Power, making us safe from the Arabs and the Russians and future Food Shortages. But how many English railed against the Common Agricultural Policy which was intended to make Europe Food indepenent ? Because it's ALL the fault of Europe innit ?

but if you don't agree, you, more often than not, choose to pick bones with mine.

So sorry about that smudge, but if you find my fixation with your posts a little overbearing, I must learn to spread my favours around a little.

But then on second thoughts, you may get a little jealous and accuse me of ignoring you, just as you did when I didn't immediately repond to you on Sunday. Do you remember?........... : o )

Cat got your tongue AOG, or are you having a heartfelt rethink
Brussels wont moscow will.
This isnt news to anyone in theenergy industry and was speculated about in the news years ago.

Future wars will be fought over energy supplies even water.
Its inevitable knowing mans inability to change.

Just rest easy in the knowledge it will be a few generations yet until it happens.
I thought we were rationing power ourselves without Brussels. The electricity company NPower will be giving away fridges that switch themselves off automatically. Maybe real time electricity use and savings will be the thing of the future.

Ah! yes remember the Common Agricultural Policy.

It is this policy which led to the accumulation of the notorious wine lakes and butter mountains, and to high food prices within the Community.

Great to be part of Europe.
AOG - very choosy in your pickings for all to see!

The reason I asked whether the 'cat had got your tongue' in the thread about the abandoned baby & her mother, is because you wasted no time in bombarding it with smug, negative comments, but when the odds were against you, you did a runner!

I'm going out now, but will agree to disagree!
The fact is that the UK has storage capacity for no more than a fortnight's gas supply. France has storage facilities for about 18 weeks, Germany for about 15 weeks.

As usual you are running this country down and as usual you completely miss the point.

France, Germany and the rest of Europe store large quantities of gas because they do not have any gas fields of their own. They are entirely dependent on imports. It is piped in from Russia, and the storage is to insure against any disruption in supplies.

We have our own gas from the North Sea. We import some when demand is very high, but most comes direct from our own fields. Rather than 18 weeks of storage, we have 20 years (some say 100 years) worth stored conveniently off the coast.

We import some when demand is very high

Yes isn't this when it is Winter?

And then don't we then buy our own exported gas back, at more than we sold it for?
