Possible maximum sentence

My best mate is wanted but we don't know what for as he was drunk when whatever happened happened. He says it's possible he killed someone. If you met him you wouldn't think he had it in him to kill someone and is now extremely scared. The police won't tell him why he's wanted so he refuses to hand himself in since he doesn't want to be locked up when our baby comes ( due in 3 weeks). If he has then obviously he should take his punishment. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the maximum sentence would be and if it would increase the longer he hides?

Will potential employers check for a police caution?
