Why is the TV series with Amanda Burton called Silent Witness?

I assume it is because she is a pathologist. The evidence all comes from the dead body. In other words the "witness" is the body. Hence the silent witness.

No.  The answer is because once you've witnessed the debacle that is SW you're left speechless.  Not that I can't stand it or anything ;)

(Used to be a massive fan, as it happens, but it all went down the pan circa 1996.  Then Amanda Burton donned a copper's uniform in the hope of becoming the next Jane Tennison.  Bless her.)
