Sam's father was murdered in 1974, her son was born in 1974 (he mentioned being 30 a couple of times). How come Sam appeared to be about 10 years old in the flashbacks we saw at the time of her father's death ? Was this a continuity error or am I missing something?

I don't think the flashbacks were necessarily at the time of his death (although we were sort of given that impression). Also she was actually 13, as shown in the credits. Maybe we know why he was given up for adoption!!
