Were Coronation Street's Percy Sugden and Phyllis Pearce ever actually written out of the programme or did they just sort of fade away ?

Percy moved into a retirement complex after the Battersbys moved next door to him. Phyliis also moved to a retirement complex but wikipedia doesn't mention whether they went together or at different times!

Update: Phyllis last appeared in 1996 and Percy in 1997 so it seems they went separately.

Cheers Gok. I keep thinking of long gone characters and wonder what happened to them. They never get mentioned any more when they leave. Even poor old Mike Baldwin never gets a mention from all his mates !!
