Where is the BBC Scotland news studio? I presume it is in Glasgow and if so - what IS that large structure in the background that looks like a disused shipyard crane?

The new studios are at Pacific Quay beside the Clyde. The big crane in the background is the Finnieston Crane. You've probably also seen it in the opening sequences of Taggart.

Many thanks for that, plowter. I haven't watched the Taggart series but will make a point of looking now that I know that! I had figured it was on the Clyde somewhere, but my knowledge of the area is some 50 years out of date!! My sister-in-law kept asking me and now I can be smug know-all!!! Many thanks again....you've been a great help.
