Continuing the "Rose and Maloney" theme!! So why did hte father slit the man's throat? they said the report said the old man suffered an initial wound that wouldn't have killed him, but then recieve a fatal wound to his throat, the father said the old man was alive when he got there, proving that the boy didn't do it and the father did. But as a doctor he would have known the man was alive and not going to snuff it so why did he proceed to kill him? did he really hate the 1 son as opposed to just favouring the clever 1?

If the old man had come round he would have accused all three boys. This from Dad the doc's point of meant that he would lose TWO sons to prison. He decided therefore that Matthew being the brighter "better" son deserved a chance so rather than lose two, he framed the other by finishing off the old man. He also knew that having been unconcious throughout the boy could never know what really happened.
