Here's the show synopsis. It should offer you all the 'goss.'

I had a similar problem with British Gas several years ago. I got a bill for over 900 because all my bill had been estimated and no one came to read my meter for 3 years.

British Gas are cr@p.
I didn't see Watchdog but have read the synopsis. I have said on threads before about B Gas and how they have driven me up the wall this year (and I am not easily driven).

They can make excuses till the cows come home but having to deal with this lot at 3 addresses tells me they have processes in place which cause extreme aggravation.

Basically, they are in love with estimates. They will not accept that the leaving occupants final reading is a good place to start the next occupants account.

Many times I have tried to reason with them, sometimes assured I had got somewhere. I have had 5 differing bills in as many days. I have had bailiffs letters. All on an empty house without services even switched on. On Monday I am having the meter read in our bungalow because they cannot give my new supplier the closing reading. From June.

Having threatened them with handing over my file to the press, the bailiff was called off, I was promised a credit of 14 (showing as 4 on this weeks bill) and a managers phone number if things go bad again.

Thanks everyone. I was in the process of transferring over to British Gas then was told they were on Watchdog. After reading the synopsis ~ thank you VillageVicar~ and the replies here I have now cancelled.
i want my tuppence worth too - i dont have gas and electric off them, but do have their plumbing & central heating cover which they are supposed to service every 12 months. once they came to my place and broke the toilet cistern off the wall, leaving me with water gushing all over bathroom and the engineer just turned the water off and LEFT. i followed it up. apparantly it was my fault as it was not fitted properly (it was there when i moved in several years earlier). surely health and safety dictates the engineers should take reasonable steps to see if something is safe before they work on it. my argument is that they should have advised me it was unsafe and i would have rectified it. and after many many heated phone calls as a 'good will' gesture they agreed to replace the cystern. the one they smashed to pieces was a lovely old unique shaped one, worth a bit in a salvage sale. they replaced it with a bargain basement ugly thing. they just would not shift. then trying to get them out to service the boiler - well firstly they were going to leave it till 13 or 14 months cos they were too busy, but apparantly its in the small print that the will 'do their best' to service annually, but tough tiitie if they cant make it. when i get my new central heating it will give me great pleasure to wave bye bye - it makes me want to swear!
