Yeah I saw it on BBC2 it was really interesting.
I only caught the end of it (from where the fifty-something lady was talking to a group of students), but I was appalled at the attitudes people still have to this disease and its carriers.

That young lass who was on at the end lives in my city. If I'm lucky enough to bump into her, I'll stop and tell her what an amazing person I think she is.
I watched it too,it was amazing to hear the story about the young man who asked 5 HIV positive men to have sex with him so that he cound get the virus. How stupid is that?

saxy-jag,i'm from Leicester too although I haven't lived there for some time now,it was nice to see a little bit of home on the TV.lol.
yer I cant believe some people want HIV!! Did anyone else think that man dying of it looked mightily ****** off when Stephen said he look imaciated
I thought it was still scary about peoples ignorance towards how you could catch the disease.

I had the full load of tests a couple of years ago, AIDS, hepatitis etc etc and I can honestly say that during my wild period not one woman insisted i wore a condom. Not one.
so did that mean you didnt because they didnt insist you did? wouldnt that make you ignorant too that you havent protected yourself because they havent said anything? Believe me blokes dont say it much either. It would be interesting to have full tests done etc, but I know I;m ok, I wouldnt be able to give blood otherwise.
R u sure yr ok 4get? lol

Sometimes I did and sometimes I didnt which I know makes me just as ignorant.

But on the other hand if you new someone had aids would you sleep with them using a condom?
I thought that man that way dying looked a bit peeved 4get,I think if he'd had any strength left he might have got up and stormed out.
I think our children should be taught they way the African children were in that school he went to,teach them at primary school age instead of waiting until their teens when they have developed an embarrassed attitude to sex and all that is connected to it. I wouldn't object to my 10 year old being taught to be responsible when he is older.
I dont think I could handle it no. which is really bad of me. But gives me a new question
Ooops, that first bit made no sense.lol, thats what happens when I try typing and having a phone conversation at the same time....who said all women can multitask???
The African problem is really at epidemic proportions but then it makes me think is it natures way of birth control?
You have a good point there Rev. That and other things such as famine, drought and infertility.

When animal and plant populations outgrow their environment, nature takes care of it. The population is decreased in order that the species can be sustained. The way it happens isn't always pretty, but then that's nature.

Now, I have a fallout shelter in my garden (actually the remains of a WW2 Andersen), so would you like to come over and share it when the flack starts flying? ;-)
Saxy it does make you wonder.

Aids originated in Africa and now its killing 365000 people a year in South Africa alone which is frightening especially when the govts advice to protect yourself is to eat fruit.
I didn't watch it, sorry.

However regarding the comment about people contracting the virus on purpose ~ didn't I read somewhere that Andy Bell from Erasure did the same thing?

Apparently as a gay man he saw it as a badge of honour....*sheesh*.
has andy bell got HIV??
and what about that bouncer that gave all them women it, slept with one every night and didnt tell anyone he had HIV
thanks pip :-)
You're welcome 4get :o)

I must say I am uncomfortable with the fact that this guy wanted to become HIV positive, yet carries on doing benefit gigs and charity work for research into cures.

It doesn't make sense!
it was suggested to me once, that hiv was unleashed in africa, potentially as an experiment. maybe for germ warfare, maybe to eradicate the overpopulation and famine issue. i thought it was an interesting consideration.

i was dumbfounded by the problem.

it was so in your face when i was a teenager, but had slipped to the back of my mind since i have been married for 19 years.

i have teenagers and will definitely have to talk to them about the risks

it would be good to find an innoculation and cure
