What is the name of the Magus in 'The Magus'? I've packed up all my books as I'm moving and it's driving me wild. For some reason I associate him with a shell, but that's not gotten me too far...

aaarrrgggghhhhh - that damn book reminds me of my Eng Lit A Level in 1989. Hated it hated it hated it. Thank god one of the other works was the simply brilliant Schindler's Ark. Not an answer I know, just wanted to thank you for dragging up some awful memories of Tuesday afternoons discussing that tome.
