My personal favourite has to be Dumbo, although as a child I was seriously freaked out when he got drunk. Scary stuff. I also love the Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. However I can't think of any modern Disney films that are anything as good as the classics. Has Disney gone down hill, or have they always been really rubbish and I just didn't notice?

I know what you mean about the 'pink elephant' scene in Dumbo - trippy stuff or what! But clearly Disney have gone downhill. They were once masters of the craft, but have dried up, and are up against healthy competition these days. They still produce good stuff along with Pixar, though (e.g. Toy Story, Finding Nemo).
Song of the South....see if they re-issue that one!
Best old Disney ------- Robin Hood.

Best new(ish) Disney --------- Lion King.

I don't think they are going downhill, I think we just expect more these days, and as jjf2003 says there is far more competition now ---- which is probably a good thing as they need to be good to keep up.

Gotta be Finding Nemo and Toy Story for me. Although the classics are good i have to say they are getting better with age. Dory just cracks me up. 'just keep swimming, just keep swimming..........' :)
I love Robin hood the animated version - and the least liked was Fantasia - it terrified me. Bloody dancing mops...
my favourite, when i was a kid was always 'the sword in the stone', because i used to love the competition between merlin and the witch where they turned themselves into different creatures!

i still think that's cool! how much of a big kid am i?!
definitely the Junglebook. must have seen it a thousand times. in general i think that for these movies a lot depends on the voices. finding nemo was fun to watch in english but a bit boring in german, whereas for ice age it was the other way round
My favourites are 'Cinderella' for the singing mice and birds and 'Snow White' for the 'Hi Ho' song - but the wicked queen gave me nightmares. 'Finding Nemo' will prbably be a future classic.
Sft42 - If you have a copy of 'Song of the South' you could be sitting on a lot of money as it was never released in the US (racial reasons) and has now been deleted worldwide - so many people are bidding ridiculous prices (60 starters) for the few remaining copies - especially in America.
But what about The Aristocats?? The jazz band swings, man! And Thomas O'Malley is one cool moggy!
Roy Disney, nephew of Walt I believe, definitely feels that the company has gone downhill:

Bedknobs & Broomsticks for me. Simply because the football match is still one of the greatest set-pieces ever shown on film - and this from an American organisation.
